Our Development Process

  1. Client Needs Analysis

The web development process starts with gathering basic information from our clients regarding their business, their marketing plan and their website needs.  With this information, we form a solid understanding of who the client is and what they want to accomplish.

  1. Site Requirements Document/Section Requirements Document

This document outlines all of the goals that the website needs to fulfill.  As we utilize a user-centered approach to web design, we make sure to include both what the client wants the site to be able to do and what the user will expect from the site.   If your site has a subsection which has complex programming or a slightly different focus from the main part of the site, we will create a Section Requirements document, as well.

  1. Site Outline

Getting web content together can be challenging for clients, which is where the Site Outline document comes in.  It organizes all of the information that the site will contain into a hierarchal structure that will be familiar to anyone who has ever written an English term paper.

  1. Site Map

The site map is a visual diagram outlining the pages that the site will contain.  It aids in the creation of coherent site navigation.

  1. Design Mockups

Design sketches will often be developed in parallel with the site map.  They generally consist of 3-5 graphic design ideas for the overall look of the site that will go through several cycles of designer-client modifications.

  1. Dynamic Features Analysis/Task Maps

If your site requires complex programming, we will map out the features you need and how they will function.

  1. Development of XHTML, Navigation, Programming

With the final Design Mockup and Site Map approved and the programming mapped out, we can finally start building a functional prototype.  Typically, all files will be uploaded periodically to a test folder so that the client can accompany our progress.   Web standards and usability continue to guide us through the development process, ensuring that your site is of maximum benefit to users.

  1. Structure and Add Content

Content is structured for web browsers – ideas are organized hierarchically, keywords are emphasized and accessibility options are written in, all of which helps with SEO.

  1. Testing

During each phase we test our work in order to verify that everything works as expected.  At this stage, though, we go through the entire site with a fine toothed comb, making last minute adjustments where needed.

  1. Launch

This is the part where you get to tell all of your friends about your new site.  Hooray, you're finally online.  And looking good, too.

  1. Maintenance

Once you’ve invested in a site, it’s important to keep it up-to-date and evolving.  Offering new content is a great way to keep people coming back.  Whether you will be making changes monthly, weekly or daily, we can help you maintain your website.

  1. Marketing

What good is a site if no one sees it?  While structuring your content for search engines (SEO) will help you get better results, there are also other options for promoting your site.  Whether or not you have a site built by SWS, we can help you put together a plan to help you get the most out of your investment.
